What is CALDSHAG?

This Action Group has been established to oversee and coordinate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of sexual health, HIV and STI initiatives targeting gay, bisexual, queer men and other men who have sex with men (GBQMSM) from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and overseas-born backgrounds, including their sexual partners, throughout Greater Sydney.

Aims and objectives of the group

Monitor HIV and STI epidemiology in relation to multicultural and CALD GBQMSM and develop relevant health promotion responses that support the work of the Action Group.

Monitor and evaluate activities undertaken; contribute to an evidence-based best practice framework.

Provide strategic leadership in HIV/STI policy and planning in relation to multicultural / CALD GBQMSM.

Initiatives and activities identified by the Action Group will be resourced in a co-operative manner by Action Group members.

Develop, implement, and coordinate cross-agency health promotion and social marketing activities, in relation to CALD GBQMSM and consistent with NSW HIV and STI Strategic Plans.

All Action Group members will be acknowledged in jointly produced health promotion, social marketing activities, materials, reports etc. (unless requested or inappropriate).

Terminology

The term Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) refers to the non-indigenous cultural and linguistic groups represented in the Australian population who identify as having cultural or linguistic connections with their place of birth, ancestry or ethnic origin, religion, preferred language or language spoken at home.

The term gay, bisexual, queer men and other men who have sex with men (GBQMSM) refers to all men (cis and trans) who have sex with men. This includes non-binary people who read themselves into this community.
